Montréal has a major retro vibe, and Marilyn Basbous, aka @skatewithmarly, knows just how to capture and embody it through her everyday activities.

Marilyn, aka “Marly,” was born in Beirut, Lebanon, in the 90s. She grew up visiting her family in Montréal during summer breaks, but only started calling Canada home when she immigrated at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020.

She’s a scientist at heart, a pharmacist by trade, a self-taught cake designer and baker, a passionate dancer and roller skater.

Through social media, she managed to connect with her community by sharing her several passions on the designated accounts @marlysgoodies and @skatewithmarly. This led to unexpected projects and collaborations, notably her advertisement for the clothing brand Stradivarius in the context of their “Do what you love” campaign in 2018.

She enjoys sharing her passion Montréal through visual storytelling, infused with her colourful aesthetics and nostalgia for the retro era.

You could easily bump into her at one of these retro spots in Montréal.
