The Village

The neighbourhood features a wide variety of service industries, including cafés, boutiques, antique shops, and restaurants for every palate.

To really get a feel for the place, take a stroll along the narrow, winding, side streets, particularly Lartigue Street, and admire the carefully restored brick homes and shaded backyard gardens. From kitsch to chic, the Village offers a unique shopping experience. A stroll on Amherst Street is sure to please home decorating enthusiasts and vintage style aficionados. Visit the antique shops that specialize in objects from the 1930s to the 1970s while the Art Deco architecture of the impressive Saint-Jacques Market building and the Écomusée du fier monde are worthy of admiration.

The LGBTQ-friendly Village hums all year long, but especially in the summer when Sainte-Catherine Street closes to traffic. Close to 60 outdoor patios and the public art event "AIRES LIBRES" are set up under a canopy of hundreds of thousands of multicoloured balls. Lounges, bars, boîtes, afterhours clubs and female impersonators are all part of the Village entertainment scene.
