Schubert: Signed Herreweghe

Festivals and events

Between Mendelssohn and Schubert unfolds a dialogue across time—a genius saluting another. A devoted admirer of Schubert, Mendelssohn was among the first to recognize the extraordinary power of his music and to bring it before the public. Under the sensitive and luminous direction of Philippe Herreweghe, this concert pays tribute to that artistic kinship. Mendelssohn’s “Violin Concerto in E minor”, a masterpiece of elegance and lyrical inspiration, opens the evening with brilliance. It is followed by Schubert’s “Symphony No. 9 ‘The Great’”—a work Mendelssohn helped reveal to the world after the composer’s death—which unfolds in all its radiant power.
