Montréal hosts the COPAC Pan American Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe Championships, an event that coincides with the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Montréal Olympic Games. Competitions take place at the Olympic Basin in Parc Jean-Drapeau on Île Notre-Dame, the very site where canoe and rowing events were held during the 1976 Games. Hundreds of Pan American paddlers, including Olympians and world champions, compete on this body of water steeped in heritage.
