Marc-André Hamelin Revisits Gershwin

Festivals and events

Marc-André Hamelin Revisits Gershwin places dance, rhythm, and urban energy at the centre of a program inspired by New York. Jessie Montgomery opens with “Coincident Dances,” an urban mosaic shaped by jazz, funk, and classical traditions. Gershwin draws directly from the world of jazz clubs in his “Concerto in F,” blending swing with classical elegance under Marc-André Hamelin’s incisive touch. Retreating from the city to Long Island, Rachmaninoff writes his “Symphonic Dances,” a late work marked by nostalgia and expansive colour. Conducted by Gemma New, the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM) traces a cityscape that moves between drive, reverie, and rhythmic vitality.
