The exhibition “For the Love of Lace: Crafting Identities” explores the social, economic and colonial implications of craft. It highlights the ways in which lacework enabled lacemakers to express and shape their identities within the context of a changing Canada. Curated by Alexandra Ruby Chafe, a lacemaker and art and craft historian, the exhibition brings together lace pieces and archival material from La Guilde’s permanent collection, enriched by loans from private collections, including works from Cirque du Soleil. Tactile and interactive activities will also be offered.
