On the fringes of orientalism

The starting point for the temporary exhibition “On the Fringes of Orientalism” was the Turkish smoking room in Marius Dufresne’s residence. While revisiting the Orientalist imaginary embodied in this room of Château Dufresne, the exhibition brings together four women artists of Iranian and Franco-Syrian origin. Their work of art spark a reflection on contemporary human, geopolitical, and cultural issues in the highly sensitive region known as the Middle East. Each in their own way, artists Shahla Bahrami, Aïda Vosoughi, Poline Harbali, and Leila Zelli offer a very different perspective of the relationship between Orient and Occident.
