Dedicated to developing and presenting diverse expressions of Asian cultures through dance, CanAsian Dance’s KickStart program commissions Canadian choreographers, challenging them to create and perform a short work that represents a significant new direction to their approach to choreography.
These artists from across the country and hailing from different creative and cultural backgrounds are all invited to step outside their comfort zone, pushing the boundaries and their interpretation of dance and its significance to them.
This year's program, in collaboration with Tangente and Festival Accés Asie, features two choreographers from Québec and two from Ontario:
- Charo Foo Tai Wei (Montréal) - The Golden Stick Ritual
- Deepti Gupta (Hamilton) - Self-Portraits with Amrita
- Andrea Nann (Toronto) - Firehorse Shadow
- Winnie Ho (Montréal) - aWokening
