Annually in June
The installation invites visitors to screen the movie before an exclusive peek behind the scenes, provided by a making-of video, production stills, mood board by illustrator Jocelyn Bonnier and costume sketches by Renata Morales, all staged in the unusual ambiance of this history-making short film.
In 2008, the century-old building located at 407 rue Saint-Pierre in Old Montréal was about to be gutted and transformed into the Phi Centre. Its founder and director sought a way to preserve the memory of a place about to vanish. There was the idea behind making this movie, Next Floor, that would pay tribute to this magnificent building. The project was then entrusted to the creativity of the renowned director, Denis Villeneuve. The worldwide success of the short film, awarded at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival, signalled with a bang the arrival of the Phi Center in Montréal's cultural landscape.
