Créer à rebours vers l’exposition: The case of site-specific interventions in Montréal

Festivals and events Leisure activities Arts Indoor Downtown Montréal

Montréal-based artists of the 1980s took a particular interest in installations that bring into play the architecture of the spaces for which they were specially designed. Taking place in private apartments, abandoned sites and atypical spaces, their "site-specific" interventions stemmed from a desire to eschew the traditional circuits of art exhibition. This documentary exhibition—part of the research project "Créer à rebours vers l'exposition" examining the history and documentation of exhibitions in Quebec— aims at charting the development of this phenomenon in the city between 1980 and 1989.
