November 25th used to be a day when no one worked and everyone celebrated with banquets, dancing, and good times. This was the feast of St. Catherine! In this spirit of celebration, Maison Saint-Gabriel invites visitors to a festive afternoon featuring music, stories and a sweet tradition.
The guided tour of the house is enhanced by the performances of a musician and storytellers. It is one of the few places where traditional St. Catherine taffy is still being made. The sisters of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame have been making this molasses-based candy since Marguerite Bourgeoys’s time. On this feast day, the sweet ingredients are mixed on the premises and then beaten and pulled for the enjoyment of visitors. Everyone is welcome to savour this famous treat.
It is sure to satisfy the taste buds of young and old alike!
