Where to go fatbiking less than an hour from Montréal

Whether you’re a fatbike aficionado or you’ve just wanted to try this fun way to roll, there are lots of places near Montréal with beautiful trails to discover. It’s a great way to get out and play, and it doesn’t take too much preparation.  

Parc national des îles-de-Boucherville, Boucherville

This beautiful park in the heart of the St. Lawrence River (epic scenery guaranteed!) has a 7 km loop trail that’s considered easy, a great choice for beginners. It’s the perfect place to give fatbiking a try because you can rent equipment on site – but you must reserve at least 24 hours in advance. You also have to pay an access fee before your visit, which you can do online.

Parc national du Mont-Saint-Bruno, Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville 

This SEPAQ park offers five trails totaling 13 km of intermediate and advanced level trails. Rentals are available by booking at least 24 hours in advance, and you must pay an access fee, which you can do online, to visit the park. Round out the experience with a soothing and relaxing stay at the Förena Cité thermal spa after a big day on the trails.

Sentiers de L’escapade, Rigaud

With its 27 km of trails for all levels, Rigaud Mountain offers fun and adventure for beginner and experienced fatbikers alike. Access is 100% free but you have to have your own equipment. While you’re in the area, add a sweet stop at the Sucrerie de la montagne sugar shack or sink into relaxation at the Paradisos spa

Parc les Salines, Saint-Hyacinthe

Just two minutes from Highway 20, this park in Saint-Hyacinthe offers 17 km of trails and 3 km of woodlands where fatbikes can roam. Access is 100% free but you must have your own equipment. After an invigorating day on the trails, you can savour an ice-cold beer at the Resto-pub Le Picoleur, just 6 minutes away.

Parc régional de Beauharnois-Salaberry, Beauharnois

Located in the heart of the Beauharnois-Salaberry tourist region, this park is an excellent place to feel far away less than an hour from Montréal. There’s no entrance fee: just take Beaulac and De la Barrière streets to the 8-km trail called “O Ti-Bois Vert”.
