Bright lights
Winter festival MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE celebrates gourmet food and illuminates the Quartier des spectacles downtown all week. The family-friendly outdoor site features creative, winter-worthy food and drink, a Ferris wheel, a 110-metre ice slide, high-tech illuminated art, fire pits for roasting marshmallows, live music and more. Look up to the facades of the Grande Bibliothèque and Saint-Laurent metro to see the projections of Space Monkey and Vivre et archiver chaque page qui se tourne.
Out all night
On February 29, stay out from dusk to dawn during Nuit blanche à Montréal. Among the many things to do, explore Montréal's underground city, populated by fascinating art thanks to the Art Souterrain event – also co-hosting a new immersive escape game this year with Échappe-toi Montréal: Journey to the Center of the Earth: The Forgotten City. Among the hundreds of Nuit blanche events, visit major museums for special activities and art galleries in the Belgo building downtown, Mile End, the Village and beyond, check out activities at Place des Arts, the Society for Arts and Technology's interactive audiovisual experiences and party on two floors and a dance battle at Agora de la danse. Find more ideas in our art and music sections.
City sights
In Old Montréal, visit Notre-Dame Basilica, one of Montréal's most famous icons and among many local churches featuring cultural activities, where you can also experience beautiful multimedia show AURA. By night in Old Montréal, use your smartphone to search out the projections of Cité Mémoire on building facades every Friday and Saturday night. Take in incredible views of the city on La Grande Roue de Montréal, from Mount Royal Park, at the Observatoire Place Ville Marie downtown and from the observatory at the top of the Montréal Tower at Olympic Park.
