Québec’s biggest names in fashion
Every city has its fashion gurus, and Montréal is no exception. We love the perfect cuts and classic lines in Philippe Dubuc’s menswear, along with the couture leather, pleated satin or airy silks from Denis Gagnon. For structured volume that’s equal parts nature and technology, there’s Marie Saint-Pierre, while Rad Hourani offers unisex creations and Tavan & Mitto delivers sophisticated, timeless collections. We turn to Éditions de Robes for dresses that range from classic to glam, and we can’t get enough of Elisa C-Rossow’s serious take on women’s sensuality or the modern femininity offered by UNTTLD.
Recycled fur, leather and luxury jackets
The lumberjack look may not be what you’re after, but when fur and leather are tastefully crafted to create stylish, eco-friendly fashion, that’s a whole other story. For recycled fur, head to Harricana. Minimalist leather bags await at Lowell or WANT Les Essentiels. And m0851 is the place to go for leather items that run the gamut from soft and worn to etched or patent. Since winter can be crisp in Québec, several local brands combine warmth with style. Find your luxury winter wear at Rudsak, Mackage and Quartz Co.!
Stay ahead of the curve with emerging designers
High-end Québec fashion is slowly stepping out of the shadows and taking its place on centre stage. Cabinet Éphémère, an initiative of the Québec Fashion Designers Council, has been operating a local design pop-up boutique since 2013. For Spring 2017, it’s set up at the Rockland Centre with various Québec fashion labels on display. These include top quality leather accessories by ByKilani and cutting-edge fantasy-inspired streetwear by WRKDEPT. Every year in March, trend watchers flock to the Fashion Preview event to catch a glimpse of Montréal’s most innovative creators, like Leinad Beaudet. And if avant-garde is the way you roll, you’d be remiss if you didn’t check out Le Rhinocéros by Phi, a boutique currently featuring Luxury Rubbish, “where cheap is cool and trash is endowed with value.” Several Montréal designers are showcased there.
