Are you ready for all the excitement and good times? Coding wizards, online marketing gurus, queens of digital design and other tech professionals will join forces on August 11 for a day-long collaboration to upgrade the technology capacities of LGBTQ non-profits. These non-profits do a world of good, but they need help updating their websites, improving their cybersecurity, building apps to streamline services, and more. If you’re visiting the city with your laptop and want to use your tech skills to help those in need, this event is a must.

In addition to doing good, you’ll have the opportunity to network and get a feel for Montréal’s booming tech sector. Learning new tricks-of-the-trade by solving problems alongside fellow tech enthusiasts is a given. Best of all, it’s free and includes meals and refreshments thanks to support from leading tech companies of the likes of Shopify and Microsoft.

PrideHacks 2.0 will be bigger and better this year

For the second year running, the professional organizations of Queer Tech MTL and GLEE will organize and host PrideHacks at the Pricewaterhouse Coopers office. Last year’s event had over 70 participants that completed tech projects for five non-profits (check out this article and video about the first PrideHacks). From upgrading phone systems to building websites and apps, the event had tech challenges fit for novice coders and experienced engineers.

For 2018, the organizers aim to have over 100 participants that will provide tech solutions to eight LGBTQ non-profits and NGOs. Tech challenges similar to the year before await solutions from gallant techies. The only thing missing from the event is you, so be sure to visit the official website to register for PrideHacks. All are welcome.

Whenever you’re in town, come to a Queer Tech MTL event

If you miss the opportunity to be in Montréal this August, there are still ample opportunities to connect with LGBTQ tech enthusiasts throughout the year. The lead organizers of PrideHacks, Queer Tech MTL, host monthly events that welcome digital nomads and visitors to the city. Rest assured, each month will have either an upbeat networking opportunity, a workshop debuting the latest tech innovations or an engaging talk with industry leaders. The best ways to stay connected is to join the Queer Tech MTL MeetUp group or follow its Facebook page. Like all Montrealers, the group organizers are quite friendly, so feel free to send them a message.
