Tree-lined boulevards, upscale boutiques, beautiful people and fabulous restaurants await in Outremont, a picturesque residential area on the northwestern slope of Mount Royal.
Outremont owes its name to its location on the other side of the mountain from downtown. Like its English counterpart of Westmount, Outremont is a beautiful uptown area, home to opulent heritage architecture, urbane parks and manicured gardens.
No matter the weather or season, Outremont’s main avenues – Bernard, Van Horne and Laurier West - are bustling with neighbourhood shops, chic artisanal boutiques, cafés, and restaurants. Come summer, they hum with life from outdoor terraces while in winter, joyful decorations illuminate the way for holiday shoppers.
This is a pedestrian’s paradise, with everything within walking distance and easy access to downtown via the blue metro line or bus along Parc Avenue. Groceries and gourmet shops, services, restaurants, even live performances at the Outremont Theatre are only steps away.
Upper Outremont, between Mount Royal Cemetery and Côte-Sainte-Catherine Road, is a wonderful place to wander amongst multi-million-dollar mansions.
Once a bastion of French wealth, this predominantly francophone neighbourhood is beginning to show signs of population diversity. It is also home to Montréal’s largest Hasidic Jewish community.
