PART OF THE ROCK ‘N’ ROLL MARATHON SERIES
Annually in September
Montréal’s marathon is music to the feet of the many thousands of athletes who run their shoes off while rocking their socks off at the annual Oasis International Montréal Marathon, part of the Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon series. Being able to run over 42 km is a fairly rock ’n’ roll endeavour in and of itself, but the Montréal Marathon ups the awesomeness by adding more than two dozen live bands to the action on courses that weave through many of the city’s beautiful and beloved neighbourhoods and cultural hotspots. The marathon wraps with a special post-race headlining concert featuring well-known names and a massive party for competitors.
The Oasis International Montréal Marathon, essentially the longest competition block party in town, features five different races under its umbrella: the 1 km P’tit Marathon (for kids 3 to 11 years old), 5 km, 10 km, the Half-Marathon (21.1 km) and the main Marathon (42.2 km), which takes roughly six hours to complete. The races and all associated activities of the marathon are designed with the whole family in mind, though there are some age restrictions when it comes to the individual competitions. Enthusiastic and supportive audience participation is also encouraged and appreciated.
The 2019 edition of the Oasis International Montréal Marathon starts beside the Complexe Desjardins shopping centre in downtown Montréal before winding through Old Montréal and the Gay Village then turning sharply east through the city’s history filled Hochelaga neighbourhood and far out to the east of the island. It snakes back through the Olympic Park and Montréal Botanical Garden before making its way through the trendy Plateau-Mont-Royal district and back downtown to the finish line in front of Place des Arts in the Quartier des spectacles.
