La lettre au général Franco - Opéra de Montréal

“La lettre au général Franco” is a new opera inspired by the iconic text by Fernando Arrabal, presented in its world premiere. Composed and conducted by Pedro Halffter, with a libretto by Kristian Frédric and Michel Beaulac, the work unfolds in a hidden underground reservoir in Madrid. Sculptor Macario completes a letter addressed to Franco while shaping a final artwork that denounces the regime’s brutality. His niece Anita, his only visitor, seeks the truth about her father’s disappearance, forcing a long-buried confession. Sung in French and Spanish, the opera features the Orchestre de l’Agora and a live sculptural creation by Victor Ochoa. With French and English surtitles.
