Winter in Montréal is full of surprises and one of them is undoubtedly Igloofest. This outdoor electronic music festival with high voltage energy is the way par excellence to beat the grey and cold of the Québec winter.
Ever danced under the winter moon on a subzero night with more than 10,000 people? Ever felt the beat of the world’s best DJs in a snowsuit and ski goggles?
On the Quays of the Old Port, over several weekends — the coldest of January and February—, this urban happening for grownups offers a wide, tempting slate of artists. Featuring the hottest local and international DJs, this hibernal festival blows the winter blues away with unbelievable music, an out-of-this-world light show and a collective energy so bright it could melt a glacier!
Annual favourites like the zany “Iglooswag” snowsuit competition, an on-site ice bar with home-grown libations, such as caribou — a mix of whisky and maple syrup—, mulled ciders and specialty (read: alcoholic) coffees, and igloos (of course!), are all on the Igloofest docket.
One tip from us to fall in love with the Québec winter and its unique, icy events: don’t forget layers and warm boots and gloves. You will need them to keep up with the rhythm!
