La Belle Hélène
Festivals and events
“La Belle Hélène” is reimagined by the Orchestre classique de Montréal (OCM) and Festival Classica in a bold staging that transposes Offenbach’s operetta to the flamboyant, murky world of 1970s New Hollywood. Directed by Lorraine Pintal, with a libretto adapted by Marc Boucher, the production juxtaposes satire with reflections on image-making, power, and desire. The playful score meets a contemporary lens, anchored by mezzo-soprano Marie-Nicole Lemieux in the title role. The result offers a clear, lively reading where humour and social critique intersect.
