BIXI, a well known word in Montréal and surrounding area, comes from combining the words bike and taxi. A true means of urban transportation, BIXI is a public self-service bicycle sharing system that’s both economical and ecological, allowing you to visit the city’s many attractions without hassle. The system allows you to borrow a bicycle from a station and return it to any other station in the network.
Using BIXI is as easy as riding a bike! All you need is a credit card to choose one of the options offered. You can rent a bike directly from the terminal or via the BIXI app. Regular and electric BIXIs are adjustable and equipped with lights.
The BIXI system has some 800 stations and 9,600 bikes (including 2,395 electric bikes) spread across 11 Montréal boroughs, the city of Westmount and the city of Longueuil. It should be noted that there are many rules in place with regards to electric bikes including the use of a helmet.
