The Jacques Cartier Bridge

Thanks to intelligent programming, this first connected bridge comes alive every night. An iconic landmark during the day, the bridge comes to life at sunset, marks the new day at the stroke of midnight, and goes into sleep mode at daybreak.

Illumination

Inaugurated in 1931 as the Harbor Bridge, this link between Longueuil and Montréal was renamed in 1934 in honour of Jacques Cartier, the French explorer and first European to describe and map the St. Lawrence River.

The Jacques Cartier Bridge is an emblem of the Greater Montreal area because of its history and architecture. Living Connections is a unique interactive lighting concept that, for years to come, will be activated in real time by the seasons and the energy of the city. This ambitious, innovative new luminous signature is a tribute to an iconic feature of Montreal’s urban landscape.

As the seasons change, so do the lights

The bridge changes with the seasons thanks to a 365-colour calendar. Day after day, it gradually changes from an energizing spring green to a radiant summer orange, a voluptuous fall red, and finally an icy winter blue.

Hourly show

Every hour on the hour, short animations visually translate Montréal’s mood. These animations are customized to the moment by traffic, weather and social media data collected during the day.

The pulse of Montréal

The vitality of Montrealers is constantly seen through a subtle flickering of the lights. The intensity, speed and density of the light particles varies with mentions of Montréal on social media.

Make the bridge shine

Activated in real time by millions of data, this innovative luminous signature, by Moment Factory, is a tribute to an iconic feature of Montreal’s urban landscape.

The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated is proud to lend its expertise to the illumination of the Jacques Cartier Bridge, a key project for the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation and the 375th anniversary of Montreal. This project strikes the imagination and bring people together while showcasing the city’s incredible heritage.
