Retro Evenings at the Casino
Is it songs by the King that set your hips swivelling or David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” that makes you beeline for the dance floor? This summer, you can blast to the past during the Casino de Montréal’s Retro Evenings, a series that kicks off the season by rocking the 1950s around the clock right to the synthesized beats of the 1980s. From the setting to styles and colours to ambiance, time travel back with some truly unforgettable music. Here’s what’s on:
Be-bop-a-Lula, summer’s my baby
From June 28 to July 22
From Thursday to Sunday at the Valet de carreau bar, it’s all slick pompadours and crinoline dresses as musicians perform free Jukebox 50 shows in a rockabilly atmosphere (7 p.m. Thursday to Saturday, 3 p.m. on Sunday). Fridays and Saturdays starting at 9 p.m., resident DJ and dancers at District will be heating things up with swing and boogie-woogie. Get your crooner crush on when impersonator Martin Fontaine hits the stage at the Cabaret du Casino for Elvis Experience 72, comme si c’était arrivé (July 5 to August 25, advance ticket purchase recommended).
Until July 22, cool down at Le Jardin patio with some delicious vanilla ice cream dipped in Belgian chocolate (and decorated with your favourite toppings) from Crème Pop’s™ ice cream truck. And on Fridays and Saturdays, rule the lanes at Rock 'n' Roll bowling, and snap some souvenir photos in the retro décor with celebrities from the 1950s (virtual and some even in the flesh)!
From July 26 to August 26
From Friday to Sunday, the free Cassette 80 shows at the Valet de carreau bar features ‘80s greats we all love. Every Thursday with the 100% tribute shows, you can belt it out to Bon Jovi, Elton John, Queen and U2 or sing it smooth like Michael Jackson. On Fridays and Saturdays at Dame de cœur and District, blow your old arcade game records out of the back waters with Pac-ManTM, Battle Royale, and Space InvadersTM. But first, channel the era with your best backcombs and neon outfits and flaunt your sartorial retro at the main entrance.
On Saturdays, August 4 and 11, check out the video clip parties with Mike Gauthier at the Valet de carreau bar from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. Pop, rock, and new wave music videos of the decade, presented on giant screens, set the dance floor on fire.
Summer-long, the Casino offers retro menus and cocktails, including Romeo's Gin Tonic in ready-to-drink format, the Fuzzy Navel, and Le Gregory, an alcohol-free drink with hints of ginger and lime. Bottom’s up, then boogie on down to the dance floor!
