Les Séries Spoken'Jazz
WITH AMÉLIE PRÉVOST ET QUEEN K
May 17, 2018
Our venue is the perfect place for a new generation of slammers, poets and musicians to come together to enjoy a gourmet meal in an atmosphere reminiscent of Harlem’s spoken word era.
A form of oral poetry that emerged during the Harlem Renaissance, spoken word was deeply influenced by the African-American civil rights movement. Spoken word has since played a vital role in shaping African-American music, giving rise to rap and hip-hop, among other genres. Today, spoken word and slam poetry are thriving art forms that draw on diverse subject matter and musical trends, making them accessible to a wide audience. This is especially true in Montréal’s creative and lively scene, which has produced some of the genre’s most talented artists.
The show takes place at the Balcon Cabaret Music-Hall.
